Memorial Day 2014 falls on May 26th—what have you got planned for this year’s three-day weekend? If you still haven’t decided where you’re going for Memorial Day weekend, here are some ideas:
The red rocks of Sedona, Arizona create the ideal setting for a long and relaxing weekend. Not only is Sedona one of the best places in the country for a spa getaway, but it makes for some of the most scenic hikes, too. Tackle one of the many trails by foot or bicycle, or spend the afternoon at Slide Rock Park. And don’t forget that being in Sedona puts you close to the magnificent Grand Canyon.
With all there is to do in the area, you’ll be glad you saved your visit for a holiday weekend. The end of May also brings some of the best weather in this desert region. It’s warm and sunny, but not unbearably hot like it can be in the heart of the summer.
Getting to Sedona: The easiest way to get to Sedona is to charter a flight and arrive directly in the Sedona airport, a small and private airport that is conveniently located just two miles from the city’s center. Those traveling by commercial plane will fly to either Flagstaff or Phoenix, and then drive approximately two hours to Sedona.
Las Vegas, Nevada
What better way to kick off summer than with a trip to Las Vegas? Whether you want to hit the casino, take in a show, spend the day at the pool, enjoy a spa treatment, or indulge in one of the many buffets, there’s no denying that Vegas has a lot to offer. If you have decided to make the casinos your chosen activity, then why don’t you get yourself in the mood for it during your travels? Online slots are becoming one of the most popular casino games on the web, so by checking out these online slot reviews before traveling can help keep you entertained during your journey to Las Vegas. It’s the city that’s commonly known as the Disney World for adults, but also offers fun for all ages. Solo travelers, couples, families and friends can all enjoy Vegas in their own way, and with so much to see and do, it makes for a great holiday weekend getaway.
Getting to Las Vegas: The closest airport to Las Vegas is the McCarran International Airport, which is located approximately 12 miles from the strip. Get your holiday weekend started off right by saving time through a private charter jet to Las Vegas.
British Virgin Islands
Although the Caribbean tends to have fabulous weather at all year long, Memorial Day weekend is a great time to visit because it’s your last chance to get in one more Caribbean vacation before hurricane season rolls around on the first of June. The main islands of the British Virgin Islands include Virgin Gorda, Tortola, Jost Van Dyke and Anegada, along with dozens of other cays and smaller islands. The British Virgin Islands boast of beautiful beaches, delectable cuisine, and fascinating ruins, but it’s often the beautiful baths of Virgin Gorda (pictured above) that attract tourists to the BVI.
Getting to the British Virgin Islands: There is one airport located in the British Virgin Islands—the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island. Commercial airlines do not offer any direct flights from the United States to the British Virgin Islands, and will require a Caribbean connection (usually in Puerto Rico or St. Thomas). And even then, these flights are few and far between, with many travelers opting to take the ferry from St. Thomas. Instead of wasting all this time and going through all this trouble, you can charter a jet directly to the British Virgin Islands.
