Westchester County Airport, also referred to as White Plains Airport, is located just 31 miles from midtown Manhattan and 3 miles from the White Plains business district. Westchester County Airport is home to 6 commercial airlines and 4 fixed based operators. It accommodates approximately 1 million passengers per year which is comprised of 23% commercial aviation, 48% heavy general aviation, and 29% light general aviation. Westchester contains one small three-level terminal with six gate spaces. The airport was originally built in 1942 as a home to an Air National Guard unit. Due to the proximity of residential homes, the airport has instituted a voluntary curfew which precludes aircraft from taking off and landing at specified times. In 2015 the airport began a $30-million-dollar expansion to increase the amount of terminals, ramp areas, and check-in points. This project is expected to expand the terminal by 20%.
