New York City is one of the most popular destination and departure points on the planet for both private and commercial flights. Newark International Airport is the second most popular commercial airport in the New York metropolitan area, located in Newark, New Jersey just 15 miles from Midtown Manhattan, followed by LaGuardia Airport, located in the northern part of the Queens Borough. Together these three airports create the largest airport system in the United States.
Busy and crowded commercial airports can be a hassle and many people opt to save time by flying out of a smaller nearby airport for a more comfortable, reliable experience. The closest, most convenient airports to fly out of in NYC include Teterboro Airport (TEB), Westchester County Airport (HPN), Republic Airport (FRG) , and Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP). Teterboro Airport located in New Jersey just across the river from Manhattan, is a small executive airport used by private jet fliers and serves as the hub for NYC’s financial district. Westchester County Airport is the second most popular departure site for private jet fliers because of its easy access to and from the city via Hutchinson Parkway. Farmingdale’s’ Republic Airport and Long Island MacArthur Airport are situated a bit further east of Manhattan, but are great options for private flights. Republic Airport is a completely executive field and allows for quicker take off times and less air traffic. MacArthur serves private charters as well as commercial flights but it’s conveniently located off I-495 makes it easy to reach for Long Island Residents.
