About Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport – Birmingham, Alabama (BHM)
The airport wasn’t renamed to Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport until 2008, after Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth. Previously, the airport was known as Birmingham International Airport and Birmingham Municipal Airport. The airport initially opened in 1931.
Since its inception, the airport has seen many changes and has undergone various improvements and renovations. Just in 2013, a ribbon cutting ceremony took place to celebrate the opening of a brand new terminal addition. In 2014, a $201.6 million terminal renovation project was completed to better serve passengers.
