If you are traveling to or from the city of Beijing in China in the very near future, it is likely that you will be traveling through the city’s main international airport, Beijing Capital International Airport. From business travelers to vacationers, this airport is one of the busiest in the world. In fact, it was recently ranked the sixth busiest airport worldwide.
About Beijing Capital International Airport – Beijing, China (PEK) (ZBAA)
Beijing Capital International Airport initially opened in 1958, but it was much smaller back then and consisted of just one terminal building. Although this terminal still exists to this day, it is now one of three terminals in the airport.
The airport has seen a number of renovations and improvements throughout the years, with the most recent being in 2008. However, due to high passenger demand and limited capacity, a new airport is currently being constructed in Daxing, China to serve additional passengers. The airport will be located on the border of Langfang and Beijing, and is expected to be completed in summer 2019.
