About Mobile Regional Airport – Mobile, Alabama (MOB)

Address:

8400 Airport Blvd
Mobile, AL 36608

Mobile Regional Airport began as Bates Field, a small general aviation airport serving Mobile and the surrounding area. The field was named for local aviator and World War I veteran Samuel W. Bates. In the late 1920s, Bates Field was expanded and modernized, and in 1930 it became the first municipally owned airport in Alabama.

During World War II, Mobile Regional Airport became an important military installation, serving as a training base for Navy pilots. After the war, commercial air service returned to the airport, and it soon became apparent that a new facility would be needed to accommodate the growing number of passengers and flights. Construction of the current Mobile Regional Airport began and the new facility opened its doors shortly thereafter.
